I mean it is, but it's also not. Hold on kids, let me break it down for y'all a bit.

Ohh the instagram algorithm, a curse, but most certainly not a blessing. It came into our lives at a point in which many of us were doing pretty a-okay with growth and engagement, ohh but how different our lives are now. Before this dreadful new algorithm, gaining followers was easier because our photos wouldn't show up on people's feeds 10 Days...or worse - months later. Before the algorithm, having our photos reach goal worthy likes (whatever that may be for you) was so much more achievable as our photos showed up in the hashtags and creatives all over the world could share inspiration and admiration for an image all by tapping a little red heart. This same red heart that brought joy to so many of our hearts, seems to now be dying a slow and torturous death. However...  while the red hearts may be in abundance, does our joy and love for creating and sharing art have to?

We all started our Instagram accounts for one reason or another, be it to act as a companion for our blogs or a the new type of blog - without the written component. Or perhaps if like me: you're a single girl and created it to have lit af photos, for your future significant other to ogle at over on Tinder. Whatever your reason, conscious or not, we all started our Instagram accounts for a reason: not to beat the Algorithm, but to share, spread and create. So why is it that with the emergence of this ridiculous algorithm has it got people paying it as much attention as I do to an uneaten bag of KFC chicken wings? Which unless you haven't figured is an awful lot!

Now don't get me wrong, if you're a blogger, Tinder dater or "influencer" (golly gosh I HATE that word) likes ARE important. Followers ARE important. Growth IS important. I know better than anyone the pain and yes it is REAL pain - because I don't know about you guys but when you've slaved away at styling, photographing and editing an image for days, only to not have it seen, adored and receive "slay, you sassy biatch" comments from your followers or friends, it sucks. It literally pains. It physically hurts. But guys...that's ok - because I've had an epiphany. The algorithm is not important. It's not about the quantity of likes OR followers, it's about the quality.

Mindblowing right? (Can you sense my sarcasm)I mean it's pretty self explanatory right? We've all taken the time to sing that same tune, but why then are we all not doing it. As human beings we are programmed to seek approval, to seek love, to seek acceptance. And social media in all of it's glory gives us that, so when something like the new Insta algorithm comes in and destroys that, our body's natural way of living is disrupted and our psyche does not like it. But guess what guys? You can fight that defence. For do we not already have approval from ourselves? Do we not already have love from our families? Do we not already have acceptance from our friends.

You see friends, everything we thought we had lost with the new algorithm, everything we craved to get back, we already have in our everyday lives. We just need to slow down long enough to see it. We already have our own "tap to like" moments when we receive a compliment or praise from our loved ones. We already have our own personal followers growing every time someone in our lives supports our dreams, hopes and desires.

Once I discovered and learnt to appreciate this, I realised that the likes, follows and amount of people who see my work doesn't matter, because the only person that I seek approval from is myself - and If I'm happy with the quality of what I put out on Instagram, I couldn't give two sh*ts about the algorithm.

The reality of it is, we have already beaten the Instagram algorithm in our real, everyday lives. And while I know it may not be the same, isn't it more important than chasing virtual likes and followers? As much as I would love for the Instagram Algorithm to go back to what it was, I have come to accept that at present that's probably not going to happen, so why not focus on the quality of content you're putting out over the quantity of recognition you're getting for it?

As I always say in these "Jheeze-Heather-talks-a-lot-posts-" is that I am in no way forcing an opinion down your throats. I just feel like we have been talking about this algorithm (myself included) from the dawn of time and Instagram HQ clearly have not got the message, so why don't we just learn to work with what we've got? When life gives you lemons and all that... What do you think guys? Can we learn to work with the algorithm?

I took these photos in my favourite nature spot in London: Fryent country park. It's such a gem and each time I visit, I'm always amazed that something so natural and woody exists in London. As much as I love this jumper, I'm hoping it will be one of the last posts that you see it in this year, because I am craving spring like a cat who hasn't been fed and I hope it comes fast!

As always thank you guys for reading.
