7 Ways to Clear and Refresh the Mind

" Said the voice from afar, don't you know it doesn't have to be so hard?" - Tame Impala's Alter Ego
At times the mind can get a little weighed down with all the thoughts and stresses of everyday life. You lie awake at night unable to sleep, with thoughts of 'will I have enough money to meet the rent this week?' or 'Why hasn't my boyfriend returned my call? I hope he's ok'. While we can't stop these negative and all-consuming thoughts entirely, it is important that we take some time out to refresh our minds and clear out all the negativity to start fresh again with a new positive mind-set. So here's 9 ways that you guys can clear and refresh those clogged minds of yours!...

1. Time - out - One of the best ways to clear and refresh the mind, is to take some time to yourself. This means, removing yourself from all people and situations that can pre-occupy your mind and just spend some time refuelling.

2. Eat right - Now I'm not going to sit here and tell you guys to eat healthy 24/7, because I don't even do that myself - I'm probably the worst advocate for healthy eating you will ever meet! But I have noticed how refreshed my mind and body feels after a big ol' fruit salad or a mug of herbal tea. I'm not saying eat healthy all the time - because not everyone can do that. But taking some time out, to eat/drink something healthy, once a day or even once a week, will help to keep the mind fresh and detox it of all the grease, from that KFC snackbox (If you're me) weighing it down!

3. Try something new - I don't know if you've ever heard the phrase: 'Try something new, to keep you from feeling blue' No? Me neither - because I just made it up! And it's pretty darn good right? Anyway try your hand at a new sport, hobby or even watch a new TV show. The addition of putting all your efforts in to something new will clear your mind, and the activity of the mind focusing on something new will refresh it!

4. Practice Mindfulness - Now I've never been one for the, "find your inner peace" stuff. But recently I have been practicing mindfulness so frequently, and getting into using all those relaxation and mindfulness apps. And it has really helped me clear my mind of all the stress and the worries. Overall I have just felt a lot more at peace and calm since starting it! My favourite apps to practice mindfulness, are Digipill and Headspace, check them out guys!

5. Count to 30 - Probably more of a quicker fix than the other options, but very effective if you don't have a lot of time to spare. Close your eyes and count slowly to 30. Now I do this exercise all the time and I can't even begin to tell you how great it is when I'm in a stressful or frustrating situation. Now it may not work for everyone, but it's worth a go, as it's one of my favourites!

6. Think about it - Now I know what you're thinking, that thinking about the issue will only clog your mind more. But if you guys are anything like me, then you will repress your problems away, until they become this clogged up thing in your mind that you never think about. But sometimes it can do you the world of good to just, pull that thought from the dark and empty corner of your mind and think about it. Think about how you can solve it, all the elements of it, and think about how you can move on from it, and by doing so you can sometimes come up with a solution to the problem and clear your mind!

7. Talk about it - Just like thinking about it, talking about something can help release all the worries and emotions surrounding an issue. And in talking about it, we give ourselves time to organise our thoughts and sometimes come up with some kind of solution. Sometimes though it's not even that we'll come up with a solution, it's that we need to offload onto someone and be listened to, which in turn will clear the mind!
